August 27, 2024The Importance of the Poetic Word
"They blended honey with the blood, and the outcome was that mead by the virtue of which he who drinks becomes a skald or scholar."
~ Skáldskaparmál
"That the Poetic Genius is the true Man, and that the body or outward form of Man is derived from the Poetic Genius. Likewise, the forms of all things are derived from their Genius, which by the Ancients was called an Angel & Spirit & Demon."
~ William Blake
"The finest poetry is that which reveals the inexplicable mysteries of the universe, challenging the mind to grasp what lies beyond ordinary perception."
~ Aleister Crowley
In practice, what does this mean? Truth that cannot be universally articulated, due to the state of being, sometimes that state includes the consequence of spells and magick.
e.g. Ritual magick is clearly very real and serves the clear purpose of consolidating an understanding or belief through physical action. Folk culture, too, has the clear purpose of community bonding. Without these aspects, any culture is merely a LARP. There's a growing feeling that everything is less than authentic and somewhat jovial for this very reason. We are becoming acutely aware that it's all just a LARP. This is an example of a truth that everyone knows, however, some people find it more difficult than others to listen and act upon what they know.
The ability to remind, and not merely tell, is one of the powers that poetry has.
